UDE is a large full coverage university in the industrial area of the Ruhrgebiet, Germany, who’s only faculty of medicine, counts more than 70 professors and almost 1,000 academic staff. The clinical focus as well as biomedical research concentrate on the areas of cardiovascular disease, transplantation, oncology, genetic medicine as well as infection and immunology. The UDE Institute of Experimental Immunology and Imaging headed by Prof. Dr. Matthias Gunzer was founded in 2011 and focuses on investigating the function of immune cells under conditions of health as well as sterile and infectious inflammation. In addition, the Imaging Center Essen provides the latest microscopy technology including intravital 2-photon microscopy, superresolution microscopy as well as whole body luminescence, ultrasound, electron microscopy and high sped cell sorting. This infrastructure and expertise will be essential in WP6 for the generation of immune cell migration data sets.
